    Why Save the Cathedral Greenhouse?

The Cathedral Greenhouse has been an institution for almost 60 years.

    Why save it from closing?

    • The Greenhouse draws the local community which brings visitors, students, families, tourists and avid gardeners who patronize the Cathedral Greenhouse for a variety of plants, herbs, seasonal and gardening supplies not found at 'superstores'.

    • The Greenhouse provides a vital educational component to the Cathedral for children and schools.

    • The Greenhouse represents a commercial venture, which if monetized appropriately, could generate a valuable revenue stream to fund operating costs for the Cathedral Foundation.

    • The Greenhouse provides yet another unique visitor experience at the Cathedral which allows for serenity, spirituality and stewardship  for the natural world. It is can serve as a model of 'greening' for the Episcopal Church and the Washington National Cathedral.

    • The Greenhouse provides a connection to the history of the building of the National Cathedral and is home to Katherine of Tarragon,  the Cathedral Cat.

    • The Greenhouse attracts a loyal following of thousands of patrons to the Cathedral Close every year. These Friends of the Greenhouse stand ready to support the Greenhouse.
